Simply put a wedding planner plans, organizes and coordinates weddings.

Wedding planners perform a variety of tasks depending on the level of involvement requested by the bride and groom.
Wedding consultants can plan and organize all the details of a wedding from booking the venue to hiring all the vendors
to only
coordinating the "day of" details.

Some tasks of a wedding planner can include:
• Making appointments for the bride and groom with vendors.
• Interviewing and hiring vendors from wedding photographers to the caterer.
• Booking the wedding venue.
• Reviewing all vendor contracts.
• Wedding theme design.
• Creating and implementing timeline.
• Budget

Job and Education Requirements
Although currently there are no state or federal laws that require wedding planners to have an educational degree
or certification it is a good idea to get some on the job training and/or certification in wedding planning.

• Hands on experience by interning with an experienced wedding planner is a great way to start out and learn the
business first hand. You can check out hotel event planning departments, wineries and wedding planning companies
to see if they hire interns.
• It's not a bad idea to get your certification as a wedding planner. Clients are relying more and more on certification to
assure them that the planner is well qualified and possess's the skills necessary to handle the demands of the job.
it is important before signing up and spending your money for any certification program to do some research on the
business/school offering the program. Check professional organizations for recommendations on reputable
certification programs and/or check with The Better Business Bureau.

Occupational Outlook
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the demand for wedding planners is expected to increase by 20%
between 2006 and 2016.
