There are a lot of people that think that the only job in the event industry is that of an event or wedding planner. While an event or wedding planner is maybe the most recognized positions in this line of work, there is a much more broad scope of positions and jobs available.
If you are thinking about a career in event industry then you will need a mixture of creativity as well as strong organizational and interpersonal skills and a drive to succeed.
If you are considering a career in event or wedding planning consider that most event planners out there stay pretty busy organizing anywhere from 30 to 140 events every year. As an event or wedding planner you can choose work solo or join an event planning company.
If you have always wanted a career in the event industry and have strong office and interpersonal skills then you may search for an opportunity hosting corporate events. This could include hosting events for clients or large sales meetings. It could also be a company party or be intertwined with a holiday. The schedule is a bit more demanding in the hotel industry and there will be a lot of juggling during the week with conferences, presentations and seminars. Usually you will be in charge of fundraisers and other business events in the evenings and the weekends are usually set aside for large social events including anniversaries and weddings.
Restaurants also can offer a career in event industry where you can oversee both social and other corporate events. There are also many other companies that need help planning big events that they have going on. This could be a museum, a shopping center, an amusement park, historical venues, and even sports teams. If you look hard enough you can find openings in the event industry to get your foot in the door.
Last of all, you should look into event services. There is a lot that goes into planning an event. This could include rentals, flowers, stages, transportation, food, security, and much more. You can usually find an employer that has a position open to let you take part in some form of the event planning that is going on.
So if you're looking for a career in event industry make sure to be creative and to use online tools and sites to help you find a good match for your skill set and your aspirations. Also consider taking workshops or seminars or enrolling in colleges that offer certification for different areas of work in the industry.
The special event industry has a lot to offer career wise to those individuals with creativity, organizational interpersonal skills and the drive to succeed.
